With over 1 million active geocaches across the world, this high-tech treasure hunting game is quickly becoming a popular outdoor activity. Following the trend, Magellan has launched a new, dedicated geocaching GPS device that will give you a complete, out of the box, end to end geocaching solution.
The Magellan eXplorist GC GPS is made exclusively for geocaching with an intuitive interface and the ability to sort and search thousands of geocaches. The GPS device comes pre-loaded with the most popular geocaches in the world and you can load further caches on your device from Geocaching.com through a USB connection to your computer.
The rugged, waterproof handheld unit has a sunlight readable color display screen with rich graphics. The main dashboard is customizable and you can navigate using the mini compass on the dashboard or from the large map screen with optional compass overlay. Within 20 feet of your desired cache, the device will beep to let you know that you are close by.
The Magellan eXplorist GC connects seamlessly to the Geocaching.com website to help you find hidden caches all around you. Once you return home you can upload your finds, field notes and custom messages to share your adventures with the geocaching community.
The GPS device is powered by two AA batteries, and can provide up to 18 straight hours of outdoor adventure. The highly-sensitive SiRFstarIII GPS chipset (same as in the new Timex Ironman), provides up to 3 meter accuracy. You can easily mark a cache found and quickly add field notes on the spot. The device comes pre-loaded with other common GPS features such as waypoint creation, worldwide basemap, active tracking and a trip odometer.
The Magellan eXplorist GC geocaching GPS will retail for $199.00, is available for pre-order and will start shipping April 5. The package comes with a USB cable and 2 lithium disposable AA batteries. You will also receive a free 30-day premium membership to Geocaching.com with your purchase.
