UK company Rohan recently released a line of technical cycling apparel, including a chamois insert to add some extra padding to your everyday clothes. For those times when you aren't out for a full-on ride, the Bumper Liner will add a bit of comfort to your bike commute or cruise to the coffee shop.
The Rohan men's and women's Bumper Liner is designed to be worn next to your skin, slid directly underneath your regular underwear. The liner offers the comfort of cycling shorts during your ride, without the pain of having to change in and out of your actual cycling clothes.
The inner liner fabric is made from a blend of polyester and elastane with a high-wicking Dynamic Moisture Control finish and anti-odour silver technology. The padding is constructed from seamless, dual-density, open cell foam polyester that’s been engineered to offer a high level of impact absorption and great recovery.
The outer, designed to hold the Bumper Liner in place, is made from polyamide and elastane with high-friction silicone grips. The Bumper Liner is easily removable, completely machine washable, and quick drying.
A similar option for women is a pair of Bloomers from My Alibi ($70), which can also be worn under your normal clothing. Made from a quick drying, stretch nylon and spandex blend fabric, the bloomers house a gel and foam pad chamois that forms a comfort barrier between you and the saddle.
