Klymit Ulaar Jacket

Klymit, creator of the argon gas based NobleTek insulation technology, is in the last few days of a Kickstarter campaign to fund the production of their new Ulaar Jacket. A full winter jacket using the same technology as the company's original Kinetic Vest, the Ulaar can act like a wind breaker or a full ski parka depending on the weather conditions you face.

Instead of bringing a bunch of extra layers with you when you head out this winter, Klymit's adjustable insulation lets you easily regulate your temperature at the push of a button. The jacket clo values, a measure of thermal insulation in apparel, vary from 1.5 (1.0 considered to be the amount of clothing necessary for an inactive human to feel comfortable at room temperature) to 4.5 (roughly equivalent to +20 degree sleeping bag).

When the NobleTek chambers are inflated with air, the Ulaar conforms snugly to your body, capturing your body heat and recirculating it throughout your core. The windproof and waterproof jacket will keep you warm even in wet conditions, as it never loses its loft.

The Ulaar comes with a Dry Air Pump for an endless number of inflations. To even further increase your warmth, you can use Klymit’s argon gas based NobleTek insulation. Argon is a noble gas with low thermal conductivity, meaning it insulates up to three times better than dead air.

For a $250 pledge (expected retail is $500), you can receive one of the first production run Ulaar Jackets and become part of the beta testing group.

Klymit is generously giving The GearCaster readers a chance to be one of the very first people to own an Ulaar Jacket. To enter the giveaway, I am going to send you on a fun little scavenger hunt instead of the usual boring "leave a comment below". So, here you go:

1. Head on over to the Klymit Kickstarter campaign and look for a word that appears around 12 times on the main project description page.

2. Use that word to find a post on The GearCaster where I have hidden a small image of the Klymit logo.

3. Click on that logo and you will be taken to the giveaway entry form.

I will accept entries until the end of the day (PST) Friday, November 9th, then choose one winner at random.

Happy hunting!

  1. Hey Eric- did you find the logo? I just fixed the link to the entry form- it was broken. Should be working now! Sorry about that.

If you didn’t find the logo, I will drop some hints as we go.

  2. Done, took me a few minutes but I was determined to enter as I think that jacket would be awesome for Wisconsin winters. Coincidentally it’s snowing for the first time this year as I post this!

  3. Thanks Amy I will try to have fun with the snow except I wasn’t expecting it so I rode my road bike for my 6 mile commute today 23mm wide tires and all. Might be an interesting trip home! 🙂

  4. Hey Robert! As many people have successfully found the entry form, I won’t give too much away except to say that the word you are looking for on the Klymit Kickstarter page is a trademarked one. You have all tomorrow to keep searching! May the force be with you…..

  5. found it, thanks! just curious if such jacket can act like personal flotation device, so i can float down the river without having to swim the whole way?

  6. That was awesome! I was a little flustered at first trying to keep track of all the possible words it could be, and then it just clicked. Kudos for a unique giveaway entry. 🙂

  7. Nice work everyone! Thanks so much for playing along with the scavenger hunt. It was fun.

I used a random number generator on all the entries and the winner is…….

    Joseph Beyer! Congrats!

I will forward your details on to Klymit so they can get you an Ulaar Jacket when they are ready.

Thanks again everyone and have a great weekend!

  8. Will I get a confirmation? Or hear from Klymit anytime soon about what size I want?

    Thanks again.
