Not everyone has the cash for a $200-$400 action camera let alone the $100 required for a new action sports helmet. So what are you to do if you really want to show your friends how you have mastered the art of the longboard glove slide? Dilemma: you need a new helmet, you want an action camera – now Bult Helmets let you have both for basically the same price.
California based company C-Preme has created the Bult multi-sport helmet with an integrated action camera. Seen as an entry into the GoPro world, the camera is meant for those people who just want to record all the cool stuff they are doing and share it with friends, not spend hours in the editing room making a professional quality video.
No wires, no annoying mounts, and no external SD cards are required here. The camera is completely integrated into the helmet with a simple on/off switch and record button (a red LED light lets you know you are recording). A USB port enables you to upload the videos to your computer and charge the battery when needed. An integrated microphone pics up your reaction and along with that of all your friends.
The X1 model ($99) is a multi-sport helmet featuring a 100° wide angle lens. Recording 640 x 480 resolution at 30 FPS, this camera helmet can capture and store up to 30 minutes of record time on its built-in 2G Micro SD card.
The X3 model ($119) features a 120° wide angle lens. Recording 1280 x 720 HD resolution at 30 FPS, this camera helmet can capture and store up to 60 minutes of record time on its built-in 8G Micro SD card and take 5 Megapixel photo stills.
The high end X5 model ($199) features a 127° wide angle lens. Recording 1920 x 1080 HD resolution at 60 FPS, this camera helmet can capture up to 60 minutes of record time on its built-in 8G Micro SD card and take 10 Megapixel photo stills.
A multi-sport helmet and full HD action camera for under $200? Not bad.
