Ortlieb Adventures Into Bikepacking

Ortlieb Framepack

Ortlieb has long served the bike touring and bike commuting market with their bomber waterproof bags. With the rise in popularity of bikepacking, the company now makes an obvious extension into creating a complete waterproof bag system to cater to those heading out on more remote adventures.

The bikepacking collection from Ortlieb includes 4 different bags that can be mixed and matched for a long day‘s excursion, an overnight trip, or a multi-day tour. With the different packs, you can quickly store everything you need on your bike in a compact, lightweight, and waterproof system.

The Frame-Pack (due out later) is designed to transport your heavy gear like tools and food in a central position close to your frame. Strong and sturdy Velcro straps ensure tight and secure fixing of the pack inside the triangle of your bike frame. The straps are individually adjustable along the bag‘s circumference for perfect fit to your specific frame geometry.

Ortlieb Seat Pack

The Seat-Pack ($160) with roll closure varies in volume between eight and 16.5 liters with a purge valve for quick and easy compression. The saddle bag serves double duty as a mudguard and features reflectors and loops for your tail light.

The Handlebar-Pack ($170) offer 15 liters of storage space and can be accessed from either side via two roll top closures. Two straps and eight foam spacers ensure the pack fits most bike styles and sizes.

The waterproof Accessory-Pack ($70) with its 3.5 liter capacity serves as an extension for the Handlebar-Pack for quick access items like your phone and wallet. It connects to the Handlebar Pack via four adjustable metal hooks but can also be used as a single bag on the handlebars or worn as hip bag.

All-in, the Ortlieb bikepacking bag system weighs 1053 grams (minus the Frame-Pack) and will start shipping in June. The Frame-Pack is scheduled later for 2017.
