A Feature-Packed GPS Bike Computer For Under $200

Garmin Edge 130

At Sea Otter this week, Garmin unveiled the new Edge 130 cycling computer. Compact, lightweight, and rugged, this bike computer delivers everything you need to navigate on your ride, monitor stats, and stay connected.

“Don’t let the size of the Edge 130 fool you – this cycling computer is packed with features,” said Dan Bartel, Garmin vice president of global consumer sales. “Not only does the Edge 130 provide cyclists with the ability to create courses in Garmin Connect, but it’s also compatible with our Varia line of cycling awareness devices and includes a suite of smart features, all in a rugged package.”

The Edge 130 features a 1.8-inch display which gives you a crisp view of the screen even in direct sunlight. You can customize the display to show up to 8 data fields on each screen.

Using GPS, GLONASS, and Galileo satellites, plus a built-in barometer, the Edge 130 will provide greater coverage and more accurate ride data so you know how far, fast and high you ride. Before heading out, you can plan and download a route on the Course Creator in Garmin Connect. Then on your ride, the Edge 130 provides both course prompts and audible turn cues to guide you. And if you get lost, the bike computer will direct you back to your starting location.

The Edge 130 is compatible with Garmin’s Varia line of cycling awareness devices, including rearview radar and smart bike lights. By pairing these devices with the bike computer, you can get alerts to approaching cars right on the display. The Edge 130 also lets your friends and family follow your real-time location with the LiveTrack feature. And if you happen to run into difficulty during a ride, the Assistance feature, when using a compatible device, can quickly send your current location to chosen contacts so they know where to find you. The Edge 130 supports both Bluetooth and ANT+ for sensor, power meter, and phone connection.

When paired with your phone, text messages will appear on the bike computer screen so you can view them at a glance and keep on riding. A new weather page will display current and forecasted conditions, as well as weather alerts to help you better plan your ride.

The Edge 130 features up to 15 hours of battery life and retails for $199.99. A bundle option, which includes speed and cadence sensors, retails for $249.99. A mountain bike bundle, which includes a mountain bike mount, Edge remote control and silicone case also retails for $249.99. All are available now.
