Yesterday, Wahoo Fitness dropped a new bike computer specifically designed for those who like off-road adventures, namely gravel and mountain biking, though the device will work equally well for roadies. The new ELEMNT ROAM combines the simple Companion App set up of other ELEMNT bike computers with new smart navigation features, a 2.7″ color display, longer lasting battery, and an integrated mount design.
Probably the biggest news is that the ELEMNT ROAM integrates Singletracks and MTB Project maps, with Trailforks maps coming soon. The device will create routes for you on demand. All you have to do is select a point on the map or enter an address and it calculates the best route. You can also save your favorite locations to generate quick directions on the fly.
Additional navigational features include re-routing to get back on course if you take a wrong turn, directions for the shortest route back to the start of your ride, turn-by-turn navigation to the start of your route, and directions to retrace your route back to the starting point.
In place of a full color display at all times, the ELEMNT ROAM uses selective color to highlight key terrain features and performance metrics while preserving battery life for long rides. The 2.7-inch ambient light sensing screen makes it easy to read data and track your position in all light conditions.
Easy to access side buttons allow you to zoom in and out of curated data fields with just a touch. The ELEMNT ROAM features programmable LED indicators that enable you to monitor your performance by just quickly glancing down at the device.
Like other ELEMENT computers, the ELEMNT ROAM uses your smartphone interface via the free ELEMNT Companion App to guide you through set-up, customize settings, configure workout pages, and link the device to cycling apps and sensors. It fully integrates with Strava Live Segments to give your targets during your rides.
Wahoo claims a battery life of 17 hours and the device is waterproof up to five feet (IPX7 waterproof rating). The ELEMNT ROAM retails for $380 and is available now.
