Montane Adopts PrimaLoft ThermoPlume

Montane Icarus

For Fall 2017, Montane and PrimaLoft teamed up to launch a synthetic insulated jacket that looks and feels like down. Stuffed with PrimaLoft’s new ThermoPlume technology, both the men’s Icarus and women’s Phoenix jacket are super lightweight and pack down small, but will continue to keep you warm in wet conditions.

PrimaLoft ThermoPlume is a blowable synthetic insulation with the look and feel of natural down. The insulation features a unique blend of water-resistant PrimaLoft fibers that deliver insulating loft, wet weather protection, and compressibility. It’s manufactured with small, silky tufts of fiber plumes that collectively form a loose fill insulation, replicating the lightweight warmth, softness and compressibility of natural goose down.

This construction allows for the insulation to be blown through traditional down-blowing manufacturing equipment, simplifying the manufacturing process for brands enabling product designers the freedom to create garments that combine the look and feel of down with the water resistant performance of a synthetic.

The Montane Icarus and Phoenix jackets feature a Pertex Quantum ECO shell which is windproof and water resistant. The 180 grams of ThermoPlume fill is equivalent to 550+ fill power down with an equivalent weight at around 581 grams for a size medium.

The micro baffle construction allows for close body fit, with articulated arms that are tailored specifically to prevent hem lift during high reach movement. You get one zippered chest pocket and two zippered hand warmer pockets. The insulated hood is designed to be worn under a climbing helmet, while the high neck is lined with microfleece for extra warmth and comfort. Elastic hem and cuffs keep out spindrift and trap in heat.

The Montane Icarus and Phoenix retail for $199 and will start shipping early next fall.
