BioLite recently upgraded the CampStove and it’s pretty great — I have been playing around with the new version the past couple of months. They upped the power output by 50%, then added an integrated battery and a new LED dashboard. Still running off of burning wood, the CampStove 2’s fan creates a smokeless fire that can cook meals and boil water in minutes while turning its heat into usable electricity.
If you recall, the BiloLite CampStove design efficiently burns sticks and other biomass. While your fire is going inside the chamber, waste heat is captured through the heat probe attached to the orange power pack, This heat is converted into electricity via a thermoelectric generator that powers a fan and sends electricity to a USB charging port. The internal fan injects air back into the burn chamber, dramatically improving combustion and creating a cleaner, more efficient burn.
With the CampStove 2, any excess energy is stored in the integrated 2600mAh battery so you can charge all your devices even when the stove is not in use. This also mean you can pre-charge the battery at home for a head start. Updated thermoelectrics provide 3 watts of continuous power output for a more seamless charging experience compared to the 2 watts on the original.
You can control the size of the flame with 4 fan speeds — compared to the 2 settings on the original CampStove. You also now get a multi-color LED dashboard that lets you see the strength of your fire, the fan level, and the power available to you to charge your gadgets.
All this new stuff comes at the same 2 pound weight and BioLite is even including in the package the 100 lumen FlexLight that plugs right into the USB port. The CampStove 2 retails for $130 and is available now.
